AMAZING! Erika was our tour guide and she was fantastic! She’s so knowledgable about the history of Medellin and she tailors your tour to what you want to see and learn about. If you can get her as your guide, you will be lucky and thrilled. (She was also super safe in terms of COVID and was prepared with all of the supplies we could have needed…hand sanitizer, wipes, extra masks, etc.) The art of Comuna 13 is stunning and a must-see. This tour also takes you on one of the Metrocables which gives you beautiful views of the city. Finally you get to taste all types of fruit in a market which is both unique and delicious. I highly recommend this tour, tour company and Erika!

This was our second tour with Medellin Day Trips. We also did the Guatape Tour and we loved our tour guide Henry so much that we requested him for this tour as well and Andres the owner was happy to accommodate us. Henry used to live in the US for many years so his English is perfect and he is just overall a great person. We were very blessed to have him for both of our tours. The Comuna 13 Tour is one we will never forget. Not only is the graffiti amazing, but the history behind the area that Henry shared with us is truly remarkable. During the tour, Henry took amazing pictures of us while telling us all about the Comuna and what a transformation it has undergone over the past eight years. If you are worried about feeling unsafe here, don’t be, these people are very appreciative of tourists and the help they provide the economy here. The highlight of our entire trip was getting to meet one of the graffiti artists and seeing his workspace. Henry has a great relationship with the artists Chota13 who has a number of amazing pieces of work throughout Comuna 13. We were able to buy some of his reprints at a very fair price and he was even nice enough to sign them for us. It was an amazing experience and I don’t think it would have happened without Henry! The rest of the tour included a delicious mango ice cream stick, a very cool cable car ride and a trip to Botero Square. All of these activities were great and we could not have asked for a better guide than Henry. If you are considering this tour, take the leap and book it and you will not be disappointed. Request Henry as your guide if possible, he really made our experience memorable.

Every moment with Andres was exceptionally well spent – fruit tasting, pan de queso, Fenix de Americas, old El Penol, El Penon de Guatape, bandeja paisa, walking through Guatape, exceptionally scenic drives, Colombia’s finest roadside dessert – and that was just day 1! Day 2 was a Medellin city tour inclusive of Botero Square, Comuna 13, escalators and cable cars – I took more photos on day 2 than every other day of my trip combined (and it was only a half day in the city)! Andres is personable, knowledgeable, an excellent driver and fantastically likable – you really can’t go wrong with this company; their commitment to the quality and integrity of the guest adventure is second to none. I would gladly hire Medellin Day Trips again on a future visit – sheer delight and a care-free experience!

As others have already said, this is a great tour for anyone who enjoys art. Having toured around much of Colombia, this was the highlight of my trip. The artists are often hanging out in the neighborhood and more than willing to hang out and answer questions. My tour guide, Daniel, was very accomodating; likewise, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If you are like me, looking for a great tour, you can stop here as you have found one. Enjoy!

This half day tour to Communa Trece (Commune 13) with Andres of Medellin Day Trips was both educational and fascinating. The commune is located on a hillside overlooking Medellin. It was formerly a dangerous place ruled by violent competing gangs. This has all changed dramatically for the better due to progressive steps taken by the government including an escalator which eliminates several hundred vertical feet of climbing. It is now a safe and interesting place to visit. My wife and I saw many groups of foreign tourists traveling with guides as well as many visiting on their own. Our local guide Manuel was raised in the commune and gave a very good presentation in Spanish. If you don’t speak Spanish, don’t worry. Andres speaks excellent English and interprets everything for you. Be sure to bring your camera. Of particular interest are the murals painted by locals and visiting artists from many other counties. Most murals represent the artist’s vision of an event or sense of the current and previous history of this commune. I suggest you bring comfortable shoes in case you want to wander along the recently built road near the top of the hill where you can find great views. I highly recommend this tour and especially our guide Andres. The tour ends with a “hands on” experience at the community center. We had the opportunity to create our own personal graffiti “tag” on a blank wall (paper) with a paint spray can. Andres was raised in Medellin and is very well educated in all aspects of the city and surrounding area. He was also very attentive to our needs and has a pleasing personality. We booked him to do all of our tours (four in all) during our visit.

Now that your stomach is full of healthy and tasty fruits we head to our second stop in our Graffiti Tour in Comuna 13: the most exciting cable car in Medellin.
Second Stop: Flying over hundreds of houses.
Throughout the ride in the cable car you will see lots of houses stack on top of the other.
Many of these houses were and some still are illegal settlements that belong to displaced people from rural areas as a consequence of the internal conflict.
Your guide will explain the origin of the war, its effects in the current city's situation and the free housing program undertaken to help them.
We are going to the last station where you can see many of the free houses. The whole ride is around 20 minutes, going up and down over the green mountains.
After we come back to the metro station and now that you have more context about Medellin, its social system, its means of transportation we head towards the Graffiti tour in Comuna 13.

Third Stop: Electrical Escalators and Comuna 13 Graffiti Tour
At this stop, we'll get inside in one of those neighborhoods in Comuna 13, the most dangerous Comuna in Medellin only 15 years ago.
Comuna 13 is the place where the first open-air electrical escalators in the world were installed.
The escalators were opened in December of 2011 with a cost of 3,5 million dollars and was built to save more than 350 stairs in a very steep hill.

Besides the escalators that became one the biggest touristic attractions in Medellin, Comuna 13 is also one of the biggest street art district in Colombia.
Half of the neighborhood displays meaningful graffiti and you get the chance to learn all their meanings at this incredible Graffiti Tour.

My boyfriend and I came to Medellín for our first time ever and booked this trip because we heard Comuna 13 was a must-see. We read reviews about how good this specific tour is, but we never expected it to be so great from the beginning to the end! Marta was so responsive and organized from the moment I booked and even following up afterwards, and Andres was a fantastic guide for our private tour. He was so knowledgeable and friendly and made it an awesome experience! We met a lot of his local friends from the area who were also very nice and welcomed us to the area with open arms. From the mango ices to the local fruits, everything was amazing. Highly recommend the tour!

We (a group of four, late 20 something Americans) traveled to Medellin for a wedding and were reccomended to use MedellinDayTrips for our adventures. Andres provided us with the two best days of our entire week in Colombia.
Andres picked us up from the hotel and took us on an extensive city tour–he is so knowledgeable and personable, it was like spending the day with a friend. He told us so many facets of the city’s history, from well known events to local secrets about the graffiti.
We loved Andres so much that we called him two days later for our Guatape Tour. He catered the tour to our liking, from everything to the music to stopping to try special cheeses.
He continued to reach out and check on us throughout the remainder of our travels in Colombia. When we unfortunately missed our flight to Cartagena, Andres went above and beyond to ensure our travel plans worked out. He even offered his own home to us!
We left Medellin and Guatape not only with great experiences, but feeling like we had made a new friend. We would definitely reccomend Andres and co. to anyone traveling to Medellin!

We had an amazing trip with Andres to the fruit market (free tastings!) and did the graffiti tour in Comuna 13. Andres was a terrific guide, gave a lot of information about the history and local customs as well as the political scene behind it. I learned so much on a variety of topics from spanish, history, colombian accents, local customs, etc. The tour is super safe and Andres’ English is fantastic – although there were only 2 of us who were not native Spanish speakers, he made the effort of always translating for us as well and we always felt very included. 10/10 highly recommend!
