Between canceled flights, covid, and the general strike, our (a father and his two daughters) trip to Medellin only lasted a day and we didn’t get to do hardly anything we had originally planned. We prioritized Andres’ amazing Jardin coffee tour and we’re SO happy we did— coming to Medellin just for the tour would have been (and was) 100% worth it. The drive out to the farm was beautiful and engaging; Andres taught us a ton about Colombia and coffee along the way. A recent landslide made some of the dirt roads to the farm nearly impassable but Andres (a seriously impressive driver!) got us there and turned the inconvenience into an adventure. We started the tour with some great coffee and a horseback ride through rural mountain roads (a highlight! Don’t miss this!), had a farm-fresh and traditional Colombian lunch from Imelda, more coffee, then wrapped up our visit with a presentation on coffee production from Andres and Jaime. We got to see Jardín for just a moment because we needed to catch a flight, but it seemed like a very nice small town. I wish we would’ve had time to ride the garrucha! Andres took us to the airport & stopped off at a nearby restaurant for arepas de choclo con quesito so I could try one before we left (it was delicious of course) We got about 1000 helpful tips and a unique glimpse into rural Colombian life thanks to Andres, who was super responsive to our questions and took great care of us all day. THIS is the tour to do. Imelda and Jaime recently built a house on their farm for daily rent; I want to come back and stay a month! Random other compliments about Andres: very communicative and clear ahead of time, passionate about and good at his job. Andres: thank you, we had a wonderful time! 🙂

We heard wonderful things about the town of “Jardin” but this tour was beyond our expectations!!!! First of all, we had an amazing English speaking guide (Andres) who accompanied us in a “private” car from Medellin, picking us up at our hotel. Andres engaged us in conversation during the 3+ trip, providing an educational context for our excursion as well as happily stopping for photos as requested. We felt like “royalty” The countryside drive was breathtaking and “Jardin” has to be one of the most picturesque towns in Colombia, with amazing gift shops and sights. Andres took us to a local coffee plantation where organic coffee is grown and harvested by hand. The family owners greeted us in their home and provided us with a delicious home-cooked lunch with everything coming from their garden and plantation. The owner explained the coffee growing and harvesting process and gave us opportunities to pick our own beans! We finished our tour and visit with home-brewed cup of Colombian coffee of course! This all- inclusive day is well worth the extra dollars you may pay! Don’t miss this day in Paisa paradise! We are so glad we didn’t!!

My husband and I went on a long-awaited trip to Colombia during challenging Covid -19 times. Trip to Medellin exceeded our expectations. We are still in awe of an experience from two full day tours we took with Andres from MedellinDayTrips. He is a genuine, very knowledgeable guide, passionate about his city and his country. We were lucky to find him for our first trip to Colombia. Our first tour with him was a trip to a local coffee farm in a breathtakingly beautiful Antioquian countryside followed by a visit to a picturesque town Jardín. We were deeply touched by warmth and hospitality of our host – the owner of the coffee plantation Jaime Marin and his family. We enjoyed immensely the views of the valley over his delicious coffee and al fresco lunch prepared for us by the family from the ingredients they grow on the farm. After hands- on experience of picking coffee beans and detailed explanation of the complex coffee growing process by Andres, we will definitely appreciate much more our coffee drinking habits. Nearby coffee town Jardín is absolutely beautiful! Andres gave us a brief overview of history and culture and showed us the most important spots in town, including famous, local pastry shop and a small cable car. Thanks to Andres, the entire day was an authentic and unforgettable experience not to be missed if you are visiting Medellin.

From the pickup in the morning, throughout the day and all the way to the return at the end of the day, Andreas was a brilliant companion and tour-guide. The day’s travel through the gorgeous Colombian countryside was a touchstone to our visit in Medellin. Andres’ passion and knowledge on the coffee industry and farming practices gave a grounding to what we saw; and being able to share in his close relationship to the farmer’s family (Angelica and Andres, and their sons) was a pleasure second to none. The food was fresh and beautifully prepared; the tour of the coffee production process, and the intricacies of a holistic and organic farming practice made a wonderful focus for a brilliant day. (We’re really looking forward to the moment they can start selling directly over the web, as the coffee may have been the best I’ve ever tasted! If Angelica wanted to start a cooking school; I’d be quick to get in line!) Stopping in Jardin was equally lovely; despite our tour happening at the beginning of the COVID shutdown and things being relatively quiet; the beauty of the town can’t be overstated. From the main square and the cathedral, to the wonderfully decorated homes up and down every street, the town revealed new delights around every corner. The coffee covered hills and the setting of the community so well named in a blooming paradise made an impression that will stay with me for a lifetime; I wish I could say the same for the honey and jam we picked up, but they’ll be gone long before the memories! Thanks again, Andres, for sharing your time with us, and for showing us some small part of Colombia’s wonder. Should we be lucky enough to return to Medellin we will definitely be following you on another adventure! Muchas graçias!

The trip begins in your place where your guide picks you up at 7 am.
You start heading southwest better known as the coffee region of Antioquia.
You decide if you want to have breakfast in the road: a tasty chicken pie (Colombian version) is a great option.
Throughout the road you are amazed with green vegetation and crops you can see from the car.
This is one of the natural beauties you see on the road to Jardin, this giant pyramid: Cerro Tusa.
In our road trip you find the biggest natural Pyramid in the world: Cerro Tusa.
After 2.5 hours of driving we arrive into our first destination: the coffee plantation.
Coffee Farm in Jardin: A Must-Do

Make the most out of your stay in Medellin Once we arrived in El Poblado we realized we would have trouble with getting the best out of our days in Medellín. Medellín is a big city and it is not that easy to understand ones way around. We made contact with Medellín Day Trips and Andres and spent a day with him on a tour of the city. It was great. The highlights were the cable car from San Javier and the walk in the las Independencia neighborhood in comunas 13.
Because we were so satisfied with the day in Medellin we decided on a tour of the coffee district and the pittoresque city of Jardín on day 2 and a tour to Guatapé on day 3. The day we spent in the coffee district was undoubtedly the highlight of or entire trip in Colombia. We had a fantastic lunch on the coffee estate after getting a tour of the estate and the production process.
I can strongly recommend Medellin Day Trips. Our guide Andres was knowledgeable, attentive and fun to be with. We got plenty for our money with this company.

We took the coffee tour with Andres, he was very informative and passionate about coffee and Medellín. Firstly, we need to say that the ride was amazing. We could see the biggest natural pyramid in the world, we had a traditional breakfast that Andres recommended and then a delicious exotic fruit that I can´t recall anymore but the taste was unforgettable. When we got to the coffee farm the owners were absolutely kind, even though we didn’t understand anything they said to us but you can tell they really love to host people at their house. It was a very informative walking tour through their coffee crops and we had the chance to pick some coffee beans. The coffee was amazing in that place, we could buy some as well… The experience in general was unbeatable and we are really glad we chose Medellindaytrips.

Andres is a fantastic guide and a great companion for the day, he went above and beyond too to give us information and make sure we had the best time on the tour and also back in Medellin.
The coffee plantation owned by a lovely couple (Andres and Angela) was perfect and the setting was beautiful. We were so lucky to have such a fantastic homemade and organic lunch, as well as some great authentic Colombian coffee grown at their farm – would highly recommend having lunch with them if you get an option.
